While terribly adorable, my dog is not the most well behaved of animals. He does know his name, but does not always respond on command. Further, he has a terribly loud bark and I think sometimes he barks just because he likes the sound of his own voice.
For those of you who have experience with dogs and dog parks, when is it ok to let my dog off the leash and go play? I don't want to be the person in the park who really shouldn't have let their dog loose to antagonize or annoy all the other dogs.
I would get a play date set up with 1-2 dogs first. Make sure they get along (another male is a good test), before you unleash the furry! There are actual dog introductions you can do too, things like walk by, not letting them get close, then letting them quickly (less than a second) touch noses, then a butt sniff, then close play, followed by off leash play. Once he gets it with multiple dogs, let him romp!
ReplyDeleteoh, and the barking could set off another dog, so watch doggie body language. hackles, snarls and posturing = bad. Sniffs, licks, tail wagging (especially)= Good. Good luck!
